Assynt Medical Practice Information for Visitors

Assynt Medical Practice is a dispensing practice for patients registered at the practice. It does not have a community pharmacy attached. GP appointments are reserved for patients who are unwell and need to be seen by a doctor. If you require to be seen by a GP while on holiday please speak to a member of our reception staff and we will try to accommodate you.

What to do if you run out of medicine

If they’re open, speak to the pharmacist in your local community pharmacy or your GP practice to see if it’s possible to get some of the medicine you’ve run out of. In many cases, they’ll be able to arrange a prescription for you and send a copy to a pharmacy of your choice.

The questionnaire available at the following link will direct you to the appropriate avenue to access a medicine supply:

If your GP practice is closed, unavailable or you are on holiday

Speak to the pharmacist in a community pharmacy if you run out of your medicine and your GP practice is closed or unavailable. The nearest community pharmacies to Lochinver are;

  • Boots the Chemist in Ullapool (36 miles South) contact number 01854 612114  ( click on link below)

The pharmacist may be able to supply you with the medication that you urgently need. If you have a copy of a current repeat medication list please bring this with you to the pharmacy, they will need to confirm details about the medicine you require. They will also need to know your name, date of birth, address and which GP practice you are registered with.

You can also speak to a community pharmacist if you’ve got a hospital discharge prescription or letter but are unable to get to your GP practice.

If you are registered with a GP Practice in Scotland this medicine supply will be free of charge, if you are registered out with Scotland there will be a charge for this service to cover the cost of the medicines supplied.

Controlled drugs including medicines such as morphine, cannot be obtained this way. A prescription should be arranged from your regular GP if you have run out of a controlled drug while on holiday.

Please note that in Lochinver, the Spar shop on the Main Street and the Inverpark Stores both sell basic first aid supplies, over the counter analgesia, cough medicines and antihistamines.
