Access to Medical Records

You have a right to see your medical records. The only restriction to this is if your records contain information that is considered by a doctor to be harmful to you. This does not include withholding information which might upset or annoy you. Harmful information can be withheld.

Should you wish to see your medical records, we would ask you to read them at the health centre while a doctor is available to answer any questions. Patients are not permitted to remove their records from the health centre but can ask for photocopies.  We are allowed a reasonable amount of time to complete this, as it can be a very time consuming task.

From time to time information about patients can be requested by NHS organisations for the purpose of audit and for monitoring performance at the practice. In this case the identity of the patient is not usually revealed. If you wish more information on this, please request a copy of the leaflet “Confidentiality, its your right” leaflet. Patients can also opt out of data sharing, should they wish.
